Cycle with us Next Summer!
Thirty-seven years ago, two Des Moines Register columnists decided to take a bicycle ride across Iowa, and invited others to join them. Today, RAGBRAI (The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) is the world’s oldest and largest recreational bike ride.
Iowa P&A invites you and/or a member of your staff to join TEAM PandA next summer in participating in RAGBRAI. Our purpose for developing TEAM PandA is three-fold:
1. To have a good time;
2. To encourage colleagues, people with disabilities, and others to participate in a quintessential Iowa event;
3. To focus on voter participation in the 2010 election, and to inform Iowans about P&A’s other activities that enhance the lives of all citizens.
RAGBRAI is scheduled for July 25 through July 31, 2010. Logistical information about the ride is attached. Visit www.ragbrai.com for additional information and to register for the ride. Also visit our website, www.ipna.org, and our Facebook page to network with us about TEAM PandA.
For enthusiasts, this is a unique opportunity to combine your love of cycling with P&A’s valuable efforts to advocate for people with disabilities. Please note that you may ride the whole week (averaging about 70 miles per day) or ride one or a few days of the trail. Some Iowa P&A staff have ridden RAGBRAI in the past, and they advise that you will want to train for the event and make sure you have the necessary stamina. Also remember that you will experience the four H’s (heat, humidity, hills, and headwinds). However, you’ll eat well, experience rural life in Iowa, and meet riders from all over the world.
Iowa P&A will provide a sag wagon and great companionship for TEAM PandA riders. You will be responsible for registration fees, equipment, and any additional assistance you may need to make your participation a successful one.
RAGBRAI participants describe it as the “vacation of a lifetime,” and many are multi-year riders. We hope you can join us in this great activity and help us promote P&A services, too!
Contact us as soon as possible if you or your staff would like to join TEAM PandA (e-mail: info@ipna.org or toll free: 1-800-779-2502.
