What We Do

PADD

Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

Iowa P&A is dedicated to the belief that every individual is entitled to a fair opportunity to a life that is as meaningful and as self-sufficient as possible.  Disabilities that begin at or before birth, or during childhood (before age 22), are Developmental Disabilities.  Laws have been enacted to address the denial of equal opportunity.  We can help make sure these laws are enforced and that your rights are upheld.

Call us if you or a loved one:

  • has suffered discrimination because of a developmental disability;
  • has been denied needed assistive technology, residential or vocational services, or other supports to which there is a legal entitlement;
  • has been forced into an institution or other unnecessarily restrictive setting because of a lack of community supports; or
  • has suffered abuse or neglect because of a developmental disability.

When you call, an Information and Referral Specialist will ask questions to help clarify issues.  As needed, a trained Advocate will call back with information, referral, assistance, and ideas.  We make every effort to resolve concerns at the lowest level of conflict possible.  If necessary, and your issue meets agency priorities, we can also pursue various administrative and legal remedies or provide technical assistance to your local attorney.

Our services are free and available statewide within fiscal and priority restrictions.
